SUEK (Russia) is represented by Dr Sergei Grigoriev and Mr Graham Chapman on the IEA CCC Executive Committee.

SUEK is the leading Russian coal company, the largest producer and supplier of coal in the nation, and one of the major global players in its sector.
SUEK holds the first place in Russia by output, keeping its strong position among the largest coal producers in the world. Since it was founded in 2001, SUEK has almost tripled coal production, reaching 92.2 million tons in 2011. This dynamism is supported not only by the expansion of coal extraction assets that has been taking place since 2001: it is, first and foremost, the result of implementing an output growth programme, competent investment policy and increasing efficiency of production. Recently, the fundamental re-equipping of production facilities was undertaken in the extracting operating units of SUEK. The longwall-method of coal extraction is carried out by up-to-date mechanised integrated machines of DBT, JOY and TAGOR types; drifting faces are equipped with high output cutter-loaders of JOY, DOSCO, КП-21 types, while mined rock is transported by belt conveyors.

SUEK’s most important objective is to raise production efficiency together with the continuous improvement of the occupational safety rate and reducing the number of injuries and emergencies in the company’s operating units.  SUEK is one of the best players in the industry in terms of productivity and cost saving. Since 2001, productivity in the operating units has risen almost 1.5-fold.

SUEK is a Russia’s major exporter of coal. Therefore, increasing product quality is an important task. In order to adequately respond to increasing demand for coal in the global market, SUEK builds new washing plants and upgrades existing ones.
