The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is a public service infrastructure company that was founded on 1 January 1992 by Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It arose from the merger of the Dubai Electricity Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently until then. The objective of the state-run company is to provide an adequate and reliable supply of electricity and water to the people of Dubai.
DEWA has a workforce of over 9,000 and provides over 600,000 customers with electricity and over 500,000 customers with water.
In April 2015, DEWA had an installed capacity of 9,656 MW of electricity and plans to increase this to over 10,000 MW of capacity by 2018.
DEWA ia represented on the Executive Committee by Mr Jamal Shaheen Alhammadi and Mr. Waleed Salman.
